Cleanup wrap-up
It appears that progressively over the years the neighbourhood is not as messy as it once was.
13 adults and 6 youngsters attended today’s clean-up and collected 12 bags of street litter. This is so removed from the days of multiple bins for metals and large items not to mention four sanitation trucks to compact and cart the smaller stuff away.
Once again, Leslie Chong, was available with her pickup truck. For those who don’t know, Leslie lives in New Westminster but her mom lives at 25th & St. George and we can always count on her to go around and pick up the filled bags that are deposited around the neighbourhood and bring them back to the 27th & Pr. Albert location. At the end of the day, she was presented with a “thank you” card and some money enclosed towards gas from Mountain View.
Thanks must also go to Bryan, the new Pastor for Ruth Morton Church and his wife Melanie for providing juice and sweets and for putting in a couple of hours on the streets.
About 5:30pm a City driver came by to pick up the leftover bags, tongs and gloves and then went to pick up the garbage bags. Unfortunately from between noon and that time someone had dumped a bunch of loose greenery on top of the bags. Could have been worse – it could have been a mattress or what-have-you :-).
*** There are some long handled picker-uppers that weren’t turned in. Could you please contact me at jackielarson@shaw.ca so that I can get them back – thanks.
The only negative of the day was my husband received a phone call from a man who said that someone had given him my telephone number (off one of the posters) and he wanted us to come pick up his garbage (including a fridge, etc). Jim explained that we didn’t do that anymore and the fellow got quite belligerent and when Jim finally asked him where he lived his answer was “Victoria Drive.” A little out of our area!
Thanks to Catherine Clement for doing up the poster and everyone who came out today as it really makes a difference.
If you’re out walking can you please keep an eye out for the posters and take them off the poles and take them home with you?
Regards, Jackie, KVS Coordinator.
