Invitation - Public Forums on Vancouver Property Tax Issues
The Property Tax Policy Review Commission that has been appointed by Vancouver City Council is seeking public input on two issues related to property taxes:
1. How much of the total property taxes collected by the City of Vancouver should be paid by residential properties, and how much by non-residential properties?
2. What are the issues concerning the year-to-year stability and predictability of property taxes for individual properties, and how can these issues be addressed?
A two-page document that provides background on these two issues is available at www.vancouver.ca/taxcommission/pdfs/PTPRCBackground.pdf. Printed copies are available at Vancouver City Hall and Vancouver libraries and community centres.
The Commission is made up of three experts in the field of property taxation: Professor Stan Hamilton, Mr. Peter Adams and Dr. Enid Slack. Council has asked for recommendations from the Commission on these two issues by June 2007. As part of their work, the Commission is inviting residential and non-residential property owners and tenants to share their views on these topics at the following four open houses.
